Population is concentrated in urban areas due to population decline and accelerating capitalism. On the other hand, the depopulation of rural areas is progressing, and the current situation is that Japan, which has entered a super-aging society in particular, has a number of marginal villages and their reserve forces. Architecture and things that functioned as part of the municipality change their owners by inheritance in the wake of the owner's death, but in a society where the nuclear family is mainstream, the residue is just luggage and does not operate It becomes an empty existence that is better. We have been pretending not to see the cracks created by the development and division of relationships caused by the explosive population growth in the past, despite the fact that there are many things left behind. When I witnessed the reality of the region, I realized that it was necessary to actively cut through the emptiness and graft new ideas and values, such as illuminating places where the light was not intentionally directed. Focusing only on the potential that things still contain, I worked on proactive practices that would follow the context.

Kii, Miyama, and Owase, which are the bases of activities in the Kishu area of Mie Prefecture, are now vacant or abandoned if you walk, as the vacant house rate in the area has reached 30% due to the decline in local income and population outflow. It was an old-fashioned place to meet. The traces of the thriving fishing industry were strongly reflected in the landscape as well as in the garbage and abandoned objects, and it seemed that the vibrancy before the decline had solidified as it was. There are countless traces of huge refrigeration facilities beside the fishing port, container boxes for carrying fish and fishermen's nets are left untidy, and there are also a large number of PVC pipes in the former ray farm along the coast. A large number of buoys and floats were rolling in the nets and fishing boat storage areas. The fact that all of them have existed in the space for more than a dozen years without interacting with people shows that they will continue to be left unattended without even being externally uneconomical, or will be used as industrial waste when the building is reused. It will continue to be processed. In a society where substances and values are being averaged through the rationalization of logistics and production, the things left behind in the times have attractive and unique values that do not exist in the market, such as regional characteristics and aging due to weathering. .. We call the unique thing that disappeared from society without its owner "Common Neglect Material (CNM)", and consciously utilize it and drop it in the area. This is one methodology that will continue to face the legacy of production and development in a world full of things and shape the future.
